Robert (Bob) Sweeney

Mr. Robert Sweeney is a successful businessman, entrepreneur, educational leader and non-profit executive in the Washington region.

Mr. Sweeney joined the American University Kogod School of Business team in 2015 to lead the effort to position Kogod as the leading business school studying the Greater Washington economy. He was the Founder and President of DC 2024, the regional group assembled to bring the Olympics to Washington DC.

Recently, on behalf of the region, Mr. Sweeney organized the collaboration between Maryland, Virginia and DC for the Amazon HQ2 attraction effort. He was the Managing Partner for the Global Cities Initiative, Greater Washington – a regional effort supported by Brookings and JP Morgan to grow regional economies through exports.

Mr. Sweeney was the first President/CEO of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance where he built a prominent board of directors, created the Sports Collaborative to nurture youth investment organizations in the sports arena, and molded the Sports Alliance into a critical organization in Washington’s business community.

Prior, Mr. Sweeney was the Vice President of DC Agenda, Vice President of the Greater Washington Initiative (the economic development arm of the Greater Washington Board of Trade) and Director of Business Development for Arlington’s Economic Development Department.

Mr. Sweeney has degrees in History and Philosophy from West Virginia University, and was the first Mountaineer to be awarded a Certificate in African Studies.
